Take the required quantity of dal and soak in it water for 30 min. Grind the soaked dal in grinder (for 20 minutes) until smooth textured batter. Mix this batter with rice batter (prepared similarly) to prepare idlies, dosas and vadas. You can also dry roast the dal with few spices to prepare masala powders or use it as tempering/tadka on chutneys, doklas, kichadis, pohas etc.
